Turmeric is one of nature's most powerful immunity boosters. It is also a wonderfully powerful antibiotic and antiviral. Over the counter antibiotics tend to kill microbes indiscriminately, but turmeric kills only foreign invaders and encourages the growth of friendly bacteria.
Turmeric is a warming herb. It stimulates formation of new blood and aids digestion of protein. It is also a powerful anti-inflammatory and an incredible, natural pain reliever, it helps with menstrual issues, toothaches, bruising and digestive ailments.
In winter this is my go-to drink for those cold wintery nights in front of the fire.
3/4 tsp turmeric powder - or grated turmeric root,
2 whole peppercorns
1/4 tsp ground cardamom
1/4 tsp minced ginger
pinch of saffron (optional)
1 vanilla pod
1 1/2 cups of homemade non-dairy milk
natural sweetener of your choice, such as honey, maple or brown rice syrup - (I find it is sweet enough on it's own)
Prepare your milk if using homemade
Before your strain it, transfer it to a pot and all all the spices
Warm over a medium heat for 3-5 minutes
Strain, serve and kiss aches, pains and wintery snivels goodbye!!
